If you stop and look at anything that wasn’t human-made, you can see this simple, peaceful, and necessary existence- then, when you look back, you see this unnecessarily busy, contradictory, and self-defeating one- and it happens to be the only one you saw only moments before. Maybe it’s time to improve it?
Random thoughts after looking out the window and becoming fixated on the blowing trees in the wind and rain, and ignoring the busy traffic and hub-bub everyone else is constantly so involved in.
I wrote this short post many years ago, but recently had a similar experience at work while looking at beautiful southern California mountains on an overcast day after days of rain. It caused me to write the following poem for my third volume of poetry:
DREAMING OF COVER
Gentle mist rests on hill's side Stoic mountains create a calm Silence embraces an overcast sky Hearing my breath catch a tree's balm The world is at peace and I am as well No problems to cease as far as I can tell The truth in certainty is that this isn't real But maybe serenity is something all should feel Disrupting nature is charged to humans alone There's no accountability to those who threw the first stone They are long gone so clearly fairness is not at play Reality is that things just don't work that way No heroes will come No saviors will spawn What's done is done through dusk and through dawn It will always be up to those who are here to restore a balance and overcome fear
